Brooklyn Horror Film Festival Presents: A DARK SONG
April 3, 2017 @ 9:00 pm
The first Monday of each month, we’re teaming up with Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and IFC for advance screenings of upcoming horror films. Our April pick: A DARK SONG.
“It is sublime, uncanny and in the end deeply moving – and there is nothing else out there remotely like it.” – Sight & Sound
“A gripping character study that succeeds because of the minimal effects and fanfare.” – The Film Stage
“This ritualistic haunter is scary, the mood rarely breaks, and for once we get a horror movie with a functional character arc.” – Willamette Week
An unholy alliance between two damaged souls leads them on a disturbing descent into the depraved realms of black magic. Sophia (Catherine Walker) is a grieving mother desperate to make contact with her murdered son. Joseph (Sightseers’ Steve Oram) is an anti-social, alcoholic expert in the occult who reluctantly agrees to help her. Holed up in a remote cabin amidst the desolate wilds of Northern Wales, the two embark on a grueling six-month series of dark rituals that will push them both to the physical and psychological breaking point. The debut feature from rising horror auteur Liam Gavin sustains an air of quietly creeping dread as it builds towards one hell of a payoff.
Dir. Liam Gavin. 100 min.
