“This remarkable film may be set in high school, but its satiric take on moral corruption, political chicanery, adultery and seduction is anything but juvenile.” – Time Out

To celebrate the new Criterion release of Alexander Payne’s ’90s satire ELECTION, we’re screening the film with a “Pick Flick” chocolate cupcake from Brooklyn Cupcake included with each ticket! Who says votes can’t be bought? Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), a well-liked high school government teacher, can’t help but notice that successful student Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) uses less than ethical tactics to get what she wants. When Tracy runs for school president, Jim feels that she will be a poor influence on the student body and convinces Paul, a dim-witted but popular student athlete, to run against Tracy. When she becomes aware of Jim’s secret involvement in the race, a bitter feud is sparked.

Dir. Alexander Payne. 1999. 103 min.

Stick around after the film! Each ticket is redeemable for $2 off any drink at the bar.
