Independent Women is a monthly screening series bringing you underrated, overlooked, “Why haven’t I seen this?!” films directed by women.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this. I can’t believe I’m in a graveyard with a strange man hunting for vampires on a school night.” – Buffy

In this hip horror comedy, a perky Valley Girl’s (Kristy Swanson) life becomes like totally messed when she finds out that she is next in a long line of vampire slayers. To make it worse, the old dude (Donald Sutherland) who tells her of her destiny then tells her that a whole nest of vampires is living in LA and she is the only one who can stop them. Unfortunately, the two lead vampires (Rutger Hauer & Paul Reubens) have found her and are now proceeding to turn everyone in her high school into blood-suckers too.

Dir. Fran Rubel Kuzui. 1992. 86 min.

Stick around after the film! Redeem your ticket at the bar for $2 off any drink.
