We’re celebrating the most cinematic of liquors with a series devoted to it! This time: American Psycho. Each ticket includes Patrick Bateman’s order: “J&B straight, and a Corona.”

Why is J&B Whiskey featured in so many movies? Rumor has it that it was Truman Capote’s drink of choice and that he demanded it be visible in the film adaptation of his Breakfast at Tiffany‘s and it took off from there. Others claim giallo directors picked it for its cosmopolitan connotations and its popularity among the Italian-American “rat-pack.” Whatever the case may be, it is omnipresent in great films, and that is reason enough to show off both the liquor and the films.

In New York City in 1987, a handsome, young urban professional, Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), lives a second life as a gruesome serial killer by night. The cast is filled by the detective (Willem Dafoe), the fiance (Reese Witherspoon), the mistress (Samantha Mathis), the coworker (Jared Leto), and the secretary (Chloë Sevigny). This is a biting, wry comedy examining the elements that make a man a monster.

Dir. Mary Herron. 2000. 102 min.

Stick around after the film! Redeem your ticket at the bar for $2 off any drink.
