Eventbrite - Withnail & I Drink-Along

Each ticket includes 4 drink courses!

A wry portrait of ’60s low-life bohemia” –TV Guide

I feel an intense envy for people who are about to see this for the first time.” –Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

“‘Withnail and I’ conveys the experience of being drunk so well that the only way I could improve upon it would be to stand behind you and hammer your head with two-pound bags of frozen peas.” –Roger Ebert

We can’t promise the frozen peas, but we can promise you an unforgettable* movie-watching experience with lots of booze. Come celebrate the film that inspired countless drinking games, each paired with a warning that claims no liability in the case of death. While we’re not trying to kill you by matching the characters drink for drink, the night will include 4 drink courses that might leave you feeling “like a pig shat in [your] head,” as Withnail so eloquently puts it.

Your ticket will include:

  • 1 cider
  • 1 shot of gin
  • 1 scotch
  • 1 glass of sherry

The setting is 1960s London. Two unemployed actors—acerbic, elegantly wasted Withnail (Richard E. Grant) and the anxiety-ridden “I” (Paul McGann)—drown their frustrations in booze, pills, and lighter fluid. When Withnail’s Uncle Monty (Richard Griffiths) offers his cottage, they escape the squalor of their flat for a week in the country. They soon realize they’ve gone on holiday by mistake when their wits—and friendship—are sorely tested by violent downpours, less than hospitable locals, and empty cupboards.

Sometimes all you need is to see Richard E. Grant in his underwear trying to fish with a shot gun. We’re not ones to deprive you.

Dir. Bruce Robinson. 107 min. 1987.
